- 309 photograph prints : b&w and col. ; 5 x 7 in to 8 x 10 in; 806 photograph negatives : b&w and col. ; 2.5 x 3 in to 4 x 5 in
- Scope:
- Fonds consists of only one series. The photographs include assorted aerial and ground views of the Richmond area as well as Sea Island and Vancouver. Most of the images are aerial shots, from various heights and angles, but there are also approximately 200 ground shots. The ground shots include Terra Nova Cannery, the construction of Lansdowne Park Mall, Vancouver International Airport and Minoru Chapel. Aerial photographs include Steveston, Sea Island, Twigg and Mitchell Islands, Richmond town centre, Hugh Boyd and Hugh McRoberts Schools and blueberry farming. Also included are photographs showing the areas around Steveston Highway and No. 5 Road, Steveston Highway and Highway 99, No. 6 Road and Westminster Highway, No. 6 Road and Blundell Road as well as the Middle Arm Airport Marina and the Dinsmore Bridge.
- History / Biographical:
- George Simpson McNutt was born in 1939. He married Bertha Jorgenson in 1960 in Edmonton. McNutt lived in Richmond from 1966 until 1989, when he moved to Surrey. McNutt began photographing the Richmond area in 1975. He was a part-time freelancer, working for the most part from his Cessna 172 airplane. He used the names "Sierra Air" and "G.S. McNutt Photographic Services", and sold his work through Image Finders
- Custodial History:
- The City of Richmond Archives acquired the George S. McNutt fonds by purchase in December, 1987. A grant from Farrell Estates obtained through the Friends of the City of Richmond Archives helped with the purchase.
