Photographs include images of her father and uncle during World War 1, and of her brother during World War 2. Also included are images of farming activities, of English School, and of lacrosse games.
History / Biographical:
Audrey Wylie is the daughter of Samuel Hugh Boyd (Sam) Gilmore and Gertrude Elsie (Gertie) Gilmore. Gertie was the youngest daughter of Thomas and Letitia Kidd, and was born and raised in Richmond. She attended English school, and later went to college in Victoria, BC. She married Sam Gilmore on June 4, 1919. Sam Gilmore was the son of James Gilmore, who came to Sea Island from Ballymena, Ireland in 1883, and Nellie Dalzeil, whose mother had moved with her daughters from Scotland in 1885. Sam was the oldest of eight children. He and his brother Leslie served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 29th Battallion during World War 1. Both took up farming upon their return, with Leslie taking over his grandmother Tiffin’s farm, and Sam and his new wife moving to the Kidd family farm at 695 Shell Road. Both brothers were avid lacrosse players, and in the 1930s Sam coached and managed the South Arm Sovereigns. Audrey was born to Sam and Gertie in 1920, and three years later her brother Boyd was born. Audrey married Thomas Wylie in 1941. Her brother joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and was posted overseas in October 1943. He was promoted to Pilot Officer Air Gunner on July 30, 1944. On August 1st, 1944, his aircraft failed to return from its mission. Later, the family received word that the plane had been shot down, and Boyd had died. He was buried in the cemetery at St. Martin Aux Bosc, France
Custodial History:
